Sundays

9:00     Communion Service
11:00   Community Service
*Childcare for those 4 and under is provided at each service
Sunday School Classes will return with the school year

At both the 9:00 and 11:00 services, Pastor Roger will be continuing a series of messages on the big heroes of the Old Testament. In "It's not just for kids you know" we'll be looking at the Old Testament in a deeper way, to discover what these stories say to us today.

Which service is right for you? You'll have to decide for yourself. While the messages are very similar in the summer, the services are different. Our 9:00 services each week include communion, giving you a way to experience the risen Lord's presence for yourself. There is also a hymn or two with the praise music, and things are a bit quieter, more reverent. At our 11:00 services, the volume and the energy get cranked up a bit and there's more variety in the services, more video clips, multimedias and participatory elements. We still have communion at 11:00,  twice a month, usually on the second and fourth Sundays.

Once a month at both the 9 and the 11 we also give you a chance to come forward and be anointed, an ancient form of prayer in which the priest asks God to touch you by his Holy Spirit and to fill you to overflowing.

However you choose to worship, you are welcome to come join us. Make the choice this weekend and discover the difference The Spirit can make in your week. To find out more before you visit, check out last week's bulletins.

Taking a new look at the stories of the Old Testament

Sunday School classes and Bible picture books like to tell the big stories from the Old Testament. Kids quickly learn about David and Goliath, about Noah and the Ark. But are these stories only for kids? Or is it simply that the last time you gave thought to the meaning of these stories was back when you were a kid? Join us throughout the summer for a fresh look at some of the best known stories of the Bible, and learn to see both the Bible, and your challenges in a new way.

And whether you choose to come at 9 or 11, or if some weeks you come early to get to the pool or come later so you can sleep in, you'll be able to follow along and stay up with the series. If you're away, just stop by our new web site and grab a copy of the messages you missed. (Our podcasting abilities are still being developed so stay tuned ...)

Small Group Notices:

It's in small groups where you can learn, find support, offer to serve, in fact ... it's where life happens.  If you're not sure or have not been in a group before, we challenge you to give it a try.  Check out the groups we have and try one on for size.

Women's Groups
Our Women's Ministry sponsors small groups throughout the week. They also offer open meetings on the first Saturday of each month from 9-10:30 am. There are also quarterly special events ... For more info see the Women's Ministry newsletter available here.

Saturday Men's Breakfast Group
Once a month, on the second Saturday, a group of men meet for a chance to check in with each other and to look at life from God's perspective. You don't need any reservations to attend, food, friends and bibles are all supplied.

Pastor Roger's New Bible Study
Anyone interested in revelations? That's the book of Revelations, by the way. It's one of the most misused and misunderstood books of the Bible. You hear it from TV preachers and Tabloids both, saying that Revelations foretells the coming doom (and is swine flu actually mentioned in the book?). Get a better handle on it all in this class. If you're interested in being part of a new 10 week Bible Study starting in a few weeks, please let us know. If enough people sign up we'll dig in. How's Thursday nights sound to you? Say from 7-8:30 starting in June? Let Pastor Roger know soon and we'll set something up. There's also a sign up sheet at the Info Booth or email him at cotsva@aol.com.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly
TOPS is a non-profit weight loss support group with chapters located worldwide. It's objective is to encourage healthy lifestyles through weight management and sponsor obesity research.  This new group is especially for mothers ... because you can bring your kids 6 and under for free babysitting. The group meets Thursdays 11:00-12:00 at Church of the Spirit.  The group meets Thursdays 11:00-12:00 at Church of the Spirit.
